Deputies Investigating After Witnesses Report Multiple Gunshots

A man was shot and killed early Monday morning in a residential neighborhood in Lynwood, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Lt. Daniel Vizcarra of the department’s Homicide Bureau told NBC Los Angeles that deputies responded to reports of gunfire around 1:15 a.m. in the 11800 block of State Street.

Witnesses in the area reported hearing between six and eight gunshots. When deputies arrived, they located a male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators said there were no additional victims.

Lt. Vizcarra noted that several witnesses observed multiple vehicles leaving the area immediately after the shooting. As of Monday afternoon, however, authorities had not identified any suspects and no arrests had been made.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. Detectives are working to determine a motive and review any available surveillance footage from nearby homes or businesses.
